Description

The Corporate Director of Faculty Development is responsible for conceptualizing, communicating, and executing a vision, direction, and sense of urgency for the development and delivery of and engagement with a comprehensive faculty development program that meets the needs of nearly 6,000 geographically disbursed, online and on ground, full-time and adjunct faculty. This diverse body of faculty members is tasked with the facilitation of student learning outcomes in programs of study including Art and Design, Business, Culinary Arts, Health Care, Information Technology, and Legal and Protective Services that award credentials ranging from certificates and diplomas to Master’s and Doctorate Degrees. The Corporate Director of Faculty Development must partner with the academic leadership across Strategic Business Units (SBUs) to ensure that appropriately credentialed faculty are hired, assigned, developed, and evaluated in compliance with state, institutional accreditation and programmatic accreditation standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

•        To interact with individual faculty, program departments, institutions, Strategic Business Units and representatives of the organization at large to identify and accommodate priorities in faculty development;
•        To develop a comprehensive faculty development program that includes multiple solutions to accommodate the diversity in priorities, learners and learning needs;
•        To lead the operationalization of a continuous cycle of improvement that connects faculty self- assessment and interest assessment with faculty development activities, documentation, faculty observation, end-of-course surveys, student satisfaction surveys, performance evaluations;
•        Anticipate and react to changing faculty development priorities in response to changes in post-secondary education, proprietary education, and accreditation;
•        Contribute to the evolving definition of the role of the adjunct faculty member as foundational to the success of post-secondary institutions, and to the definition of standards in hiring, orientation, faculty load, compensation, development, evaluation, and recognition;
•        Contribute to the organizational decision regarding a technology-driven solution to the collection, evaluation, management, storage, and updating of faculty credentials;
•        To represent Career Education Corporation as an advocate for faculty, as a champion for quality teaching and learning, and as a leader in terms of engaging, supporting and developing adjunct faculty in the provision of post-secondary education.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
•        Finalize CEC instructor competencies as the foundation of all faculty hiring, development and evaluation;
•        Engage with each SBU to develop an annual Faculty Development Plan which incorporates strategic goals in terms of faculty hiring, assignment, orientation, management, development, evaluation, and recognition;
•        Develop a standard Faculty Development Handbook which will serve as the template for all SBU Faculty Development Handbooks;
•        Provide leadership for the faculty credentialing initiative;
•        Collaborate with Online Course Development to develop a comprehensive online faculty orientation program to be utilized across the Enterprise and customized by each SBU, as needed;
•        Develop and deliver online training modules as needed to contribute to the comprehensive faculty development program;
•        Provide face-to-face faculty development sessions to contribute to the comprehensive faculty development program;
•        Develop a comprehensive solution to Program Chair training;
•        Collaborate with other members of the Corporate Academics Department, as well as the VPAAs of the SBUs and other functional areas to conceptualize and develop a comprehensive solution to the training of Directors of Education;
•        Assume leadership for the Educator of the Year faculty recognition program;
•        Provide innovative and proactive thinking and leadership for the annual Faculty Appreciation Week;
•        Manage relationships with external vendors who are selected to provide a portion of the faculty development solution; and
•        To conceptualize a virtual conference for faculty and academic leadership.

Skills/Abilities   
•        Ability to conceptualize and communicate a strategic solution, deconstruct it into achievable action steps with deadlines, identify resources, manage the development process and to engage in formative and summative evaluation;
•        Ability to exercise leadership through collaboration with all levels and functions of the organization to make strategic decisions, to make an informed decision and to communicate and execute that decision;
•        Demonstrated knowledge of teaching and learning, specifically applied to adult learners and faculty members;
•        Demonstrated knowledge of the instructional process in the physical and virtual classroom;
•        Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate face-to-face training as well as virtual training through the use of Web-Ex or other technological solutions;
•        Knowledgeable about accreditation standards and their impact upon faculty hiring, credentialing, development, and evaluation;
•        Excellent verbal communication skills with individuals at all levels within and external to the organization;
•        Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to edit own writing and the work of others;
•        Knowledgeable of research, online resources and professional associations that support and inform post-secondary instruction and the faculty that provide that instruction;
•        Ability to be self-directed and decisive and to adapt to an environment of continuous change; and
•        Demonstrated contributor to team initiatives and to the organization at large.

Experience   
•        Verifiable experience with faculty hiring, credentialing, management, assessment, development, and recognition at the post-secondary level;
•        Demonstrated experience managing multiple complex projects concurrently;
•        Experienced at the provision of face-to-face and virtual instruction and/or training, preferably in a post-secondary setting;
•        Progressive history of employment demonstrating a trend of increasing leadership and responsibility.   

Education
Minimum of a Doctorate degree in education or related field.
