The American Public University System consists of two online accredited universities: American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU).
The School of Arts and Humanities welcomes applications for the position of Program Director of Graduate History & Military Studies.
The Program Director is a key leadership and management position that contributes to a range of activities related to administration of their program(s). The Program Director works closely with their school dean, to effectively manage their program activities across functions in their school and to create and manage systems to support effective online learning in their school and respective disciplines.
Essential Functions:
- Manage approximately 35-40 instructors and have teaching responsibilities in the History Department.
- Developing full-time and adjunct faculty teaching schedules designed to maximize student registration options.
- Coordinating with other administrative offices in faculty recruitment, hiring, orientation, development, mentoring, and evaluation.
- Conducting monthly teleconference faculty meetings.
- Maintaining program curriculum quality and integrity.
- Develop and foster growth of new curriculum
- Conduct program reviews and regular classroom audits.
Education and Experience:
- PhD in History required.
- Evidence of research and publications.
- 3 to 5 years experience with online teaching is required.
- Academic administrative experience is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- While the position is located in the Charles Town, WV office, candidates for this position may live and work remotely.
- Travel to Charles Town, WV or Northern VA four times a year for quarterly meetings is required.
