PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
        
Job Knowledge
        
1.        Follow the approved course syllabus to train students by developing skills in those areas in which the instructor is qualified to teach.

2.        Make use of approved textbooks and electronic/Web resources.

3.        Recognize differences in learning ability in individual students and assist in developing techniques to help them reach their potentials provide explanations and reinforcement to the students when needed.

4.        Assesses course effectiveness through student assignments, assessments and discussions.

5.        Review all course material within the online environment for accuracy and quality. Take the midterm and final exam and determine fairness and accuracy prior to students accessing the exams. Communicate requests for all course design enhancements and/or changes within the online environment to the online development team in writing

6.        Assist the Director of Faculty Relations, Department Chairs, and Curriculum Chairs in the evaluation of subjects taught to include the revision of course outlines, selection of textbooks and other teaching aids, and development of curricula as needed.

Communication/Interpersonal Relation Skills

7.        At the beginning of each quarter, compose and send email within the online environment detailing the school’s attendance policy, your personal communication policy, your assignments and your grading policy, and your professional bio.

8.        Log on and respond to student concerns once every 24 hours on weekdays and once on the weekends.

9.        Encourage students to seek your help and work willingly and tactfully with those students experiencing difficulty in mastery of subjects taught.

10.        Actively participate in weekly discussions in each of the classes that you teach.

11.        Relate to students in a fair, courteous, and professional manner. Encourage students to possess and demonstrate a positive business attitude.


Administrative Duties

12.        Complete all requirements for employment in a timely manner including the online faculty training course.

13.        Grade assignments in a timely manner and provide feedback to assist the students in understanding the material and improving on future assignments. Maintain consistency in grading and evaluation procedures.

14.        Complete the At-Risk report every week as requested; relate student concerns to Department Chair as they are identified.

15.        Post grades to the faculty portal according to the timeline given at midterm and at the end of the quarter and submit any other documentation needed to finalize grades.

16.        Complete counseling email for each student who receives below a 73% at midterm.

17.        Complete reports as required by the Director of Faculty Relations and Department Chairs in an accurate and timely manner.

18.        Submit a self-evaluation to be used as part of your quarterly observation if requested by the Department Chair.

19.        Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Faculty Relations or Department Chair.


Professional Development

20.        Maintain current knowledge of the healthcare environment world through affiliate inservices, participate in professional organizations that relate to the subjects taught, and read current professional periodicals; incorporate this knowledge into the student training process. Attend job-related seminars and workshops as taught. Provide documentation of professional growth as requested.

21.        Complete training for Online instructors, attend quarterly faculty in-service functions in the online environment and quarterly faculty conference calls.

Education/Experience:
Certifications from AHIMA or AAPC along with documented work experience in basic billing, clinical and hospital coding concepts in the healthcare field. Current working knowledge of insurance, strategies and uses of HCPCS, CPT, Medicare and Medicaid guidelines. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred, with a strong background in the coding environment along with 2 to 3 years of related work experience.
