Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I have located a person in the database who fits a need, now what?
A. Please contact our sales team to obtain pricing for your institution. Pricing is scaled based on the size of the institution. Special pricing can be negotiated for consortia arrangements.
Q. I have located a person in the database who fits a need, now what?
A. Contact information is provided in each profile for subscribing institutions. Using that information you may contact the person via email, mail, or phone and discuss your online course needs. If you do not have a subscription for unlimited views, you can purchase credits to unlock profiles. These credits can be used whenever they are needed and never expire.
Q. What is a locked profile?
A. By default all profiles are locked. This means that any information could be used to specifically identify the faculty member is hidden. By locking profiles we allow free searching of our portfolio database while securing the privacy of our members. Institutions can purchase one of our service packages to unlock profiles on a need by need basis - or - we offer packages to unlock the entire database.
Q. How are schools using facultyfinder.com?
A. Some schools use faculty finder when they are looking for a faculty member or other leader who has special characteristics. Because they can search by multiple variables they are able to narrowly define the type of candidate for which they are seeking. Other institutions strategically plan to use adjuncts to teach their online courses. This allows their full-time faculty to be available to teach in the classroom without using part of their teaching load for online courses. These schools use facultyfinder.com to meet this adjunct staffing need. Other schools use facultyfinder.com to locate a faculty member at the last minute when a scheduled faculty member is not available. Instead of closing the course, they can quickly place a faculty member in the course. Other schools are building an online program and depend on the expertise of experienced online faculty to establish their online program.
Q. Don't most schools use their own faculty to teach their online courses?
A. Often institutions begin with their own faculty, but as their online programs grow their resident faculty may not be able to meet the teaching load for resident and online courses and stay within the confines of accreditation standards for academic teaching loads.
Q. This institution is already flooded with applicants to teach online, why do we need facultyfinder.com?
A. You should let facultyfinder.com handle this administrative burden for you. By pointing to facultyfinder.com from your web site you can send applicants to this database and you will not have the administrative burden of applicants contacting you directly. Then when you need a faculty member for a specific course just search the database.
Q. What are your minimum requirements (as far as education, experience, etc.) for a faculty member to sign up on your web site?
A. There are no minimum educational requirements for a person to create a FacultyFinder profile. This is due to the fact that different types of institutions have different requirements. A research university might require someone to have a doctorate degree, while a corporation looking for an online trainer might only require related experience..
Q. How does FacultyFinder check the records/backgrounds of the listed faculty?
A. At this point we do not verify credentials. Faculty members are allowed to upload documents which can include unofficial copies of transcripts. Most institutions are using FacultyFinder to identify potential faculty and leaders. When a candidate is found, that person is then required to complete the typical human resources application procedure to teach at the institution. This step usually requires that the individual have official copies of their transcripts sent to the institution. It is at this point that their credentials can be verified.
Q. In what areas of study are faculty offered?
A. This is unlimited. We allow faculty members of any academic background to complete a profile. The profile is fully searchable by many variables including keyword or a listing of the degrees.
